Footfall survey planned for Main Library - Please Read

As part of preparations for the Library Redevelopment, which is being carried out to deliver a greatly enhanced Library service and building, the Library Project Team is organising a 7 day footfall survey. For the duration of the survey, all readers will be required to have their Library card scanned upon entry and exit of the Main Library. This survey applies to students, staff and external readers alike. We need your help to collect reader data of this sort so we can ensure we design a refurbished building which will meet your needs.

The survey will run from 08.00 on Monday 25th February through to 00.00 on Sunday 2nd March. Any readers who have lost their matriculation cards are strongly urged to apply for a new card now, ahead of the survey to ensure they can gain access to the Library. Information about applying and paying for a replacement card can be found at the following web address http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/tech/IDcards/.

Prior to the survey there will be equipment testing carried out in the Library from Wednesday 20th February, and a sample of readers will be asked to present their library card.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR ID/LIBRARY CARD DURING THE SURVEY YOU WILL BE REFUSED ENTRY TO THE MAIN LIBRARY

SAULCAT enhancements
During the week beginning the 4th February we will be making significant changes to the Library's online catalogue SAULCAT in readiness for the start of Semester 2. These changes will add extra functionality for searching and retrieval in SAULCAT as well as offering users the opportunity to personalize their use of the catalogue.

Key enhancements are

  • the addition of book cover images, tables of contents and summaries to many of the catalogue records;

  • the introduction of a Your Library Record service which offers Preferred Searches with email alerts for new stock

  • the introduction of RSS feeds for recent Library purchases, both general stock and DVD listings

We do not anticipate any interruptions to SAULCAT service but please be prepared for changes in the appearance and behaviour of SAULCAT as we finalize the new functionality.

We welcome comments and feedback about these new services and please send these to library@st-andrews.ac.uk or to our new enquiry desk messaging service at http://www.standrewsuniversitylibrary.blogspot.com/
